NCD Uganda is actively involved in multiple initiatives aimed at transforming lives. Our ongoing projects include:

NCD with support from Global Affairs Canada, through Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR) is implementing an evidence-based holistic and multi-sectoral seven-year titled; SHE SOARS project (Sexual and reproductive Health & Economic empowerment Supporting Out of school Adolescent girls’ Rights and Skills) with the goal of achieving gender transformative and sustainable change.
SHE SOARS implements evidence-based health system strengthening interventions, deep and transformative community engagement on harmful gender and social norms, and intentional capacity building of Women's Rights Organizations (WROs) and Youth Led Organizations (YLOs) to engage in long-term and sustainable SRHR policy advocacy to address the unique risks and protection needs of out of school adolescent girls and boys 10-19 years of age in Kenya, Zambia and Uganda.
NCD is actively engaging in regional and global human rights forums to drive systemic change beyond national borders. This has facilitated presentations and engagements at the ACERWC, EAC, UNHRC and UNCAT sessions, amplifying the voices of marginalized women and girls on the regional and global stage.
Working with partners, NCD has assessed the 2020 Revised Guidelines for Prevention and Management of Teenage pregnancies in School Settings in Uganda; effectiveness, implementation and dissemination gaps, produced and disseminated the research findings.

With financial support from Amplify Change, NCD is implementing a 2-year project in Mukono district aimed at promoting health wellbeing of pregnant girls and adolescent mothers by advocating for a positive learning environment and de-stigmatization of school re-entry of adolescent mothers in Uganda. The project is implemented in 10 Universal Primary Schools in Mukono District among which include St Balikuddembe R/C Primary School Kulubbi, Ntunda C/U Primary School, Mayangayanga Umea Primary School, Mpunge Primary School, Nagojje C/U Primary School, Kasana UMEA Primary School and Bugolombe Primary School, St Ponsiano Mubanda Primary School, Kanyogoga Primary School and Kyabazaala Public Primary School.
The project is contributing to: increased access to information on the 2020 school re-entry guidelines among learners, parents, community members and duty bearers, strengthened capacity of cultural/ religious leaders, district health and education officers with knowledge and skills to advocate for prevention of teenage pregnancies and re-entry of adolescent mothers in schools, strengthened capacity of teachers and subcounty personnel to engage learners and community members on prevention of teenage pregnancy and re-entry of adolescent mothers in schools in Mukono district by 2025.

In Uganda young people continue to be victims of sexual abuse forcing them into child marriages. In a move to address the negative effects of child marriages. From 2019 to date, NCD has worked has worked with 13 public schools (10 Primary, 3 secondary) to implement initiatives aimed at preventing teenage pregnancies and ending child marriages in communities with in Mukono district.
NCD uses education as a tool to prevent child marriages. Here, we equip teachers and pupils with knowledge and skills on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH), detecting early warning signs of violence and ending child marriages. NCD equipped parents, local and religious leaders with information on ending child marriages and teenage pregnancies and as well as laying strategies to create an enabling environment for learning, achieving and attaining high level academic performance. Conducted community dialogues aimed at preventing early pregnancies ending child marriages.
NCD supports 112 girls (100 at primary, 12 at secondary level) with school fees and scholastic materials to enable them enrol and complete school. To date, 45 girls completed their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
